Every Website owner would like to get more Search Enginetraffic. But its getting tougher and tougher to get a good listingthese days. There are literally millions of other web pages thatare vying for the same top 20 search engine listing that you want.Most of us dont have the time or expertise to carefully editand reedit the keywords and meta tags for each enginesspecific criteria.In the past I had spent many hours tracking the words andphrases that came up highest in the search engines. I thenvaliantly attempted to work my site content, key words andmeta tags to reflect these words. The results were mediocreat best. It seems that there were thousands and thousands ofother webmasters with exactly the same idea. It is extremelydifficult to get a top 20 listing for a very popular search word.Until recently I had pretty much given up on expecting trafficof any significance from the Search Engines.DISCLAIMER: I am not an expert on Search Engine rankings.The following information is strictly based on my own personalexperiences and those of a few friends.An Accidental DiscoveryQuite by accident I stumbled upon a technique that bringsin a LOT of Search Engine hits to my site.I have created a small library of reports on Internet Marketing.The intention is to assist website owners with their marketingefforts. I wanted to provide a great source of relevant materialthat would bring them back again and again. Ezine publishersand other site owners were also encouraged to copy thesearticles and publish them.This does work quite well on its own, but Ive been noticingthat a lot of people are finding these reports from the SearchEngines. The hits are happening from obscure search termsthat most other sites arent using. Theres little competitionfor them so my site gets a very nice ranking. Sometimes itslisted in the number seven position, sometimes its in theseventeenth spot. It could even be a number three listing. It canhowever bring in hundreds of extra hits that a site mightnormally not get.What Web Searchers Really WantWhen you go to a Search Engine, how many times are youlooking specifically for something to buy or for an affiliateprogram to join? If youre like me thats not why youre atthe Search Engine. Youre there to find information on thetopic of your interest - and it should be FREE!Example:Lets say that you want a Super recipe for Chicken Soup.Are you going to search for a cook book? Not likely. Youwant the recipe not the book. BUT, while you are readingthe recipe it is possible that you could be tempted to lookat a cook book for sale - or a cooking pot, or a set of ovenmitts, or ..... well you get the idea.Your local supermarket has been doing this for years. Yougo to buy a jug of milk and a loaf of bread and end up walkingout with a couple of bags of extra stuff and $60 less in yourwallet. They often price the milk at cost or less to get you intothe store but they know that the loss will be more than madeup for with your impulse item purchases.Give them Content - and lots of itIf your site is about cooking, then put as much cookinginformation as possible on your site. Put cookware reviews,stove recommendations, healthy eating guides, microwavetips, interviews with famous chefs, etc. You could even offerother related information such as: wine recommendationsfor certain meals, calorie guides, links to famousrestaurants, nutritional charts, etc..Make it useful, relevant and valuable to your visitor. If theyare impressed, it is likely that they will come back and eventell a friend or two about "that great new site that I just found".Where can I get this Content?No, you do not have to write all the information yourself.Although if you can put together original content it is evenmore effective.Simply search around for top quality content by going to yourfavorite Search Engines, ezines, libraries, magazines, books,newspapers, etc. You can also get ideas for great materialby tuning into radio and TV programs that specialize in yourarea of interest.Always, always, always give credit to the source of theinformation. Plagiarizing will often get you the wrong kindof attention. Givethem a good reason to click onto YOUR link.2) Name SearchesMany web searches are done for peoples names. Historicalfigures, modern day personalities, authors, big namemarketers, etc.. These get thousands of search requests. Ifyou can sprinkle book reviews and articles that use famousnames in your content rich site, you will see more visitors thatmight normally never find your site.3) Speaking of book reviews...On my site I have a section devoted to selling books forAmazon. As far as it being a moneymaker the thing is abust. It aint working! Nobody is buying (please come andpurchase a book from me - Im begging). So why dont I justtake it down and scrap the bookselling business?Well, it brings in tons of hits from people who are searchingspecifically for those books and authors that are reviewedon my site. Okay, so they dont buy the book (the odd onemight though), but they do click through to other pages onthe site and sign up for my ezine and other programs.These 3 suggestions have worked wonders for my statspages and ultimately the bottom line too. They certainlywont replace your other marketing efforts, but can providea nice supplement to them.
